Syllabus
Week 1- Grip, swing, stance and rules This is the foundation, where you’ll learn how to hold the racket, how to move to the ball, and the overview of how to win at squash (ie the rules).
Week 2-movement This is the stage where you learn court-specific movement—how to capture and return to the T, and how to hunt the ball efficiently.
Week 3- deep game: rails This is where you learn the bread-and-butter of squash—the deep, long rail. This is the simplest and most powerful shot to use against any level of player, especially other beginners.
Week 4- serve and return These shots are some of the most leverage-able in squash, because they set the tone for all subsequent play in the point. We will learn to control these opportunities and make things maximally tough on our opponents.
Week 5-volley The most aggressive shot you can make in squash is the earliest shot—taking the ball in the air before it has a chance to bounce—because it gives your opponent little time to react. We will learn when to do this, and how to do this effectively.
Week 6- competition: strategy, sports psychology, and fitness
During this last week, we will play against each other and test what we have learned, with frequent debriefs to go into the specifics of sports psychology, how to stay alive in long matches, and how to win against different types of players.
